Winter, 2014

I ENTER the VALLEY, my tribute to poetry, Pablo Neruda and female creativity is in the top 46 plays in the first ever KILROY LIST (Look at all these amazing plays!)

I ENTER the VALLEY was developed thanks to the Djerassi Resident Artist Program, Ars Nova Playgroup and Emily Schooltz, the Dramatists Guild Fellows, Diana Son and Andrea Lepscio, Mickey Place and One Coast Collaboration, New Century Theatre Company, Seattle Rep, The Women’s Project theatre, Kate Pines, Julie Crosby, Daniella Topol and Jesse Jou.

Big thanks to the incredible LA playwriting posse the KILROYS who make me want to move to LA so I can hang out with them.

The Rasmuson Foundation have given me the incredible opportunity to develop new work at the Sitka Island Institute in Sitka, Alaska! So I’ll be spending the fall working on a new play and musical here.

In Seattle with OCC, Caitlin Sullivan and the Satori group are working on my new play MECHANICS of LOVE, which was originally conceived in Alaska last year while I was teaching at Perseverance Theatre in Juneau at their incredible summer Institute:

Oh! One more! So jazzed to be writing a site specific piece for the New Georges Benefit! I am sad to be away but you should totally go….

I am utterly delighted to be the inaugural recipient of the Shakespeare’s Sister Playwriting Fellowship. The prize, in Ellen McLoughlin’s words, is to facilitate the creation of “an entirely new kind of play than a playwright would ever have been able to write without it.”

The Fellowship partners with three wonderful organizations; A Room of Her Own, the Lark and Hedgebrook to create a structure over a year that will support a new work from gestation through writing.

I am thrilled!

Read all about the Fellowship here.

I’m also so proud to be part of two new wonderful circles of theatre folks!

THE RULES had an outing at the Playwrights Festival at White Heron Theatre Nantucket, directed by Aaron Rossini

And I’m happy to announce my play PASSING was named a finalist for the Leslie Scalapino Award.

I’m halfway through my residency now at the Sitka Island Institute and it’s been a privilege to live, share stories and develop new work here with the writers at the Blue Canoe Writers Group. This is Sitka…

An abridged version of MECHANICS of LOVE at the Ma-Yi Lab Fest December 6th at 7pm, Jesse Jou directing.

And at the Drama League Directors Fest Dec 11th-14th, Caitlin Sullivan directing.

In December I’ll be working with Fault Line Theatre and Aaron Rossini on an as yet untitled new play about love, technology, terrorism and the failure of language. And also thanks to Fault Line, I’ll be working with Lauren Keating and Jane Jung on a new iteration of my play THE ART of GAMAN last seen in the Architecture of Becoming at the Women’s Project Theatre.

Fall, 2014

Spring, 2015

The Spring is for Dreaming. As the Inaugural Shakespeare’s Sister Fellow, I am getting to dream up new plays and projects with the support of The Lark, A Room of Her Own and Hedgebrook. These plays range in subject from immaculate conception to Guantanamo Bay. I’m also beginning a commission from the Yale School of Law to write a play on the legal rights of indigenous and first nations tribes. Research will involve travel around the world. I’m very excited to begin…
